Harold Stephens

Harold Stephens, leader of Trans Asia Expedition, is no neophyte when it comes to travel and adventure. He set the record for the longest motor journey around the world, built his own 71-foot schooner and for 18 years explored the South Pacific and waters of Asia, including many of its rivers, dove on World War II wrecks and discovered the British battleship HMS Repulse, crossed Afghanistan on a camel caravan and rafted down the Amazon, climbed some of the world highest and most formidable peaks from the Matterhorn in Switzerland to Mont Popocatepetl in Mexico. He has lived in Tahiti and China and although he calls California home he presently lives in Bangkok, the hub of his adventure travels. He is Travel Correspondent for Thai Airways and has authored many thousands of newspaper and magazine articles, and 26 books, some of which have become bestsellers. His aim for years has been to follow the Great Wall of China and pick up the trail of Marco Polo in Central Asia. He is making it possible having teamed up with Jezreel Coate and Brian Sargent, two men experts in their own fields, to form the Tans Asia Expedition.

Brian Sargent

Brian Sargent is an avid outdoorsman who has hiked and camped the remote forests of Northern California, often traveling alone. He ventured far afield when he traveled to Southeast Asia in the past year and fell in love with the Far East and adventure travel in these parts. He is a keen photographer and is studying cinematography, as he will be photographer for the Trans Asia Expedition. He will also be directly involved with the building of the Land Rover performing much of the non mechanical rebuilding work, such as installing an AC inverter power system and GPS navigation system that is linked to a laptop computer. Brian is an electrical and electronics wizard as well as a decent mechanic if the need arises.

Jezreel Coate

Jezreel Coate is also an experienced traveler. Having spent many years exploring Belize in Central America, he has driven from the USA through Mexico to Belize more than once. He has explored ancient ruins in Belize. Driven through almost all 48 states in the contiguous USA. He has visited Thailand and other Southeastern Asian countries. He has spent more than a year in South Africa and neighboring countries getting to know the locals and their culture.

Jezreel is also an excellent automotive mechanic having worked in auto repair shops for many years. In one weekend he converted his Toyota Pickup from Independent Front Suspension to a Toyota straight axle for better off road performance. Since then he has taken his Toyota Rock Crawler on the famous Rubicon Off Road Trail in California and has taken it into the remote mountains of Northern California many times on camping and off-road adventures.

While Jezreel is an accomplished traveler having spent much time in North and Central America he hasn't spent as much time as he would like in Asia. Trans Asia Expedition offers him the opportunity to explore more of Asia; and he is a great asset to TAE because of his mechanical and traveling experience.
